I’m honored to introduce myself as the next Principal of Crystal River Elementary School and I approach this
incredible opportunity with great enthusiasm. I look forward to working closely with you all to build upon the great work you have done in the past to push the school forward toward the shared vision of success that we build together.

Just a bit about me: growing up in Michigan and heading to Colorado by way of St. Louis, I come from a family of
educators and am excited to continue that work at CRES. Over the past seven years working at multiple elementary
schools in Denver Public Schools, I have grown as a teacher, a leader, and a person. I taught 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grades while working with an incredibly diverse population of students at McMeen Elementary and also worked in the
“turnaround” setting as a school leader at Harrington Elementary.

In my time as a teacher and leader, I have realized the importance of values in our work. I will strive to always lead from my own values of reflection, integrity, equity, collaboration, accountability, and fun. However, the most important value, in my view, is that of being a “students first” educator. Each tough decision, challenging conversation, and celebration that I take part in will always be student-centered and student-driven. Kids are what inspire any teacher to get into education; the boundless curiosity of a kindergartener, the bright smile of a second grader, or the newly abstract thinking displayed by a fourth grader. These are the things that make education a more than worthwhile pursuit, and I intend to keep that at the forefront always.

That said, I want to get to know you all first. I am finishing up with responsibilities for my current job in Denver, but am already getting started on the work for CRES. To the CRES staff: my goal is to meet with all of you before the school year begins, so get ready for me to bug you to sit down with me sometime in July or early August! Once my summer schedule is more set, I will let everyone know when I am arriving in Carbondale and try to set up meetings from there. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to me on my personal email until I get an rfschools account:This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. To the CRES parents and community: I will be setting up some parent
coffees as well as some "open office hours" in the community so that I can start to get to know you all as well. Angela Hanley is helping me coordinate those and will get that information out to you once we have it all set.

Again, I’m thrilled to be a new part of the CRES community and I’m looking forward to working with you all in the
upcoming years.
