Leadership - Assistant Principal
I am the Assistant Principal at Crystal River Elementary School. I’ve been here in the valley for a year, having been gone for the last 15 or so years. I’ve been living in Santa Cruz, California, and I really miss seeing whales, dolphins and sea otters every day! I moved back to the Roaring Fork Valley in order to be near my family who live in Glenwood Springs.
I have been in the field of education since 1980 (that’s 38 years as an educator!). Most of my career was spent as an educational researcher and college professor. I taught at CU Boulder, Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Lewis and Clark College, and UC Santa Cruz. My area of expertise is multicultural education and my research focuses on equity issues in schools.
Being at Crystal River is a wonderful change. I am happy to see the smiling faces of your kids every day. I am enjoying the emphasis on compassion and teamwork. I think our task is to help children climb their own mountains, as high as they can, and our staff does an amazing job of making that happen!
